Over the past twelve years, I’ve found the best way to describe what it’s like to witness or participate in a natural burial is to share through storytelling. You might have heard others tell a related story or even experienced one yourself.  If you live in a rural or semi-rural area and natural burial is just plain what people are used to doing. It is a custom common to many cultures across the world and in fact what we did here in the United States until the Civil War changed how we handle death care.

This story is honest, includes moving photographs of a family’s experience and explains the human emotional and logistical aspects, as well as the ecological pieces.

This site has a conversational explanation about natural burial and some photos that are also helpful in getting a handle on what it is about.
